Security architecture

Security built into the network, not bolted on after.

Most installs put every device on the same Wi-Fi. That's the wrong way to do it. Every ILS system is built on a separated, firewalled network.

Why it matters

A smart home adds dozens of internet-connected devices: cameras, thermostats, speakers, lights, locks. On one flat network, a single compromised device becomes a path to your laptop, your phone, and your work files. We design every system so that can't happen.

VLAN segmentation

Smart-home devices sit on their own network on a UniFi setup, isolated from your personal devices at the switch level, not just by a password. A compromised camera can't see your laptop.

Firewall rules

Devices can reach the local Home Assistant server. They can't reach the internet directly unless they need to. Traffic is monitored and suspicious activity is blocked at the firewall.

Separate networks

A personal network for your phones and laptops, a dedicated IoT network for smart-home hardware, and an isolated guest network. Three networks, one router, no cross-contamination.

It runs locally

Automations run on a local server, not in the cloud. Your motion sensor triggers the light with no round trip overseas. Your automations keep running when the internet drops. Remote access through Nabu Casa is an optional subscription.

No cloud lock-in

Your system isn't tied to one manufacturer's cloud. If a vendor discontinues a product, the system keeps running. You own the hardware, the licence, and the data.
